WHAT IS TITLE VI?

 

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is the federal law that protects individuals and groups from discrimination on the basis of their race, color, and national origin in programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance.

 

LONGVIEW TRANSIT'S TITLE VI POLICY

 

Pursuant to Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as amended, the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987, and other nondiscrimination authorities, it is the policy of Longview Transit that:

 

Longview Transit and the City of Longview are committed to assure nondiscrimination in the delivery of public transportation services to the effect that no person shall, on the grounds of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participating in, or be denied the benefits of, or be subject to discrimination under any program, or activity administered by Longview Transit, the City of Longview, or its contractors.

 

RIGHT TO FILE A COMPLAINT

 

Any person who believes that they have been subjected to discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin may by themselves or by a representative file a signed written compliant with Longview Transit within 180 days of the date of the alleged act of discrimination. A complainant may file a compliant directly with the Texas Department of Transportation or the Federal Transit Administration.

 

HOW TO FILE A COMPLIANT

 

Complainants' are encouraged, but not required, to use the Longview Transit Title VI Complaint Form located below. The form can also be picked up at the Longview Transit offices (908 Pacific Avenue- Longview), or sent to you through the mail by calling Longview Transit (903-753-2287).

 

The complaint should be signed and include:

 

Your name, mailing address, and how to contact you (phone number, email address, etc).

How, when, where, and why you believe you were discriminated against. Include the location, and names and contact information of any witnesses.

Other information that you deem significant.

Longview Transit will provide appropriate assistance to complainants with disabilities or who are limited in their ability to communicate in English.

INVESTIGATION

 

Upon receipt of a Title VI compliant, Longview Transit's Title VI Coordinator will make a prompt investigation. A letter acknowledging receipt of the complaint will be mailed within seven days. The investigation will include, where appropriate, a review of the practices and policies of Longview Transit, the circumstances under which the possible noncompliance occurred, and other factors relevant to a determination as to whether a Title VI violation occurred. Every effort will be made to complete the Title VI investigation within 60 days of receipt of such complaints.
